The Asylum

Dress Code and Etiquette

Steampunk is a world of well dressed and polite individuals.  Polite and considerate behaviour is essential both at the event and when in the City of Lincoln. We are very happy with the reputation we have in Lincoln and want it to continue. We expect all attending to be polite and well mannered. There is no place for rudeness or unpleasantness and we reserve the right to eject anyone from the event that we feel is not behaving appropriately.

A great amount of time and effort is often put into outfits which are usually eyecatching and impressive.  This is not however essential. Tight budgets and time constraints mean that you may not be able to dress as you might like. We do however prefer it if you can make an effort.

Friday night is not a formal affair. Anything goes. Expect to see everything from airship crews and adventurers to formal ladies and gentlemen. You can wear whatever accessories etc you wish to this event. (See the guidelines on weaponry below however and the comment on "fursuiting".)  The same goes for Saturday during the day and Sunday during the day and Saturday night in the Victoria..

Saturday Night's ball is a more formal affair. PLEASE do not bring any weaponry at all and do your best to dress to impress. That does not necessarily mean formal Victorian wear although this is an easy solution. We look forward to seeing your more creative and imaginative outfits. (Not to mention all of the corsets!)

Please note that this is a steampunk festival and is not a suitable venue for "fursuiting" or similar.

This is fundamentally an adult event and particularly during the evenings there may be some adult themes to song lyrics, humour etc.  Children are welcome during the daytime but should be well supervised by parents.  Under 16s may only attend the evening functions with the express permission of the organisers and with the understanding that their parents take full responsibility for them.

Individuals are responsible for any weaponry, replica or theatrical that they may wish to wear or display. We strongly advise you not to openly carry or wear any item in public. It is best if you transport such items in a bag or box between your accomodation and the event venues.

If you need ideas about how to dress then why not visit the forums at Brass Goggles, Live Journal and Facebook.

One final note on the "Mad Hatter Rule".  In order to facilitate mixing and social interaction some features may be designated as falling under the Mad Hatter Rule.  The incumbent Hatter may at their whim call out "Change Places" and nominate a new Hatter.  All present are required to change places and sit alongside someone new to have a conversation with.

Enjoy the Ayslum.
