The VSS has from its formation recognised excellence in the world of steampunk.
The Competitions each year for the Pugin, Rossetti, Verne, Brunel and Ruskin medals are always hard fought. These medals are awarded by a panel of judges when viewing work presented anonymously.
There are also the coveted Fellowships which are awarded entirely at the discretion of the MVSS to recognise the contribution to British Steampunk of outstanding individuals.
We would now like to launch a series of awards which are made by the VSS on your behalf. Awards for which the nominations and ultimately the actual decisions are made by UK Steampunks in the form of people attending The Asylum each year. These are awards for work first published/released etc between January 1st and December 31st 2011)
Rather than falling into the trap of making this a "cult of personality" these awards will be made for a tangible piece of work be it a book, artwork or piece of music etc. We feel this is more in keeping with the ethos of steampunk.
We have even included opportunity for you to suggest a category and nominate in it. The best suggestion(s) we will incorporate into the awards.
These forms will be used to draw up a shortlist of nominees. (Being shortlisted is of course an accolade in itself.) The voting form will be made available to all Asylum convention adult attendees (Weekend and Saturday bands) and they may submit their vote when they collect their wristbands.
Results will be announced at the Empire Ball and awards made where nominees are in attendance. Results will also be published on Sunday morning.
